Overview

Mr Plumber's trenchless pipe relining service repairs damaged sewer and stormwater pipes from the inside out. No excavation, no destroyed gardens, no weeks of disruption. Our epoxy resin liners create a seamless pipe-within-a-pipe that is stronger than the original and backed by a 50-year product warranty.

Why Pipe Relining Is the Smart Choice for Eastern Suburbs Homes

Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs sit on some of the most valuable real estate in the country. Properties in Bellevue Hill, Vaucluse, Double Bay and Rose Bay feature meticulously landscaped gardens, heated pools, sandstone retaining walls and heritage-listed facades. The last thing any homeowner wants is a backhoe tearing through their front yard to replace a cracked sewer line.

Traditional pipe replacement means excavating a trench along the entire length of the damaged pipe — often running under driveways, garden beds and even beneath the house itself. The plumbing work might take two days, but restoring the landscaping, concrete and paving can take weeks and cost thousands more.

Trenchless pipe relining eliminates all of that. For a full pricing breakdown, see our guide on trenchless pipe relining costs in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Mr Plumber repairs damaged pipes from the inside, creating a seamless, structural liner that is stronger than the original pipe and carries a 50-year product warranty. No excavation, no destroyed gardens, no drawn-out restoration.

How Trenchless Pipe Relining Works

Pre-Inspection with CCTV

Every relining job begins with a comprehensive CCTV drain camera survey. We feed a high-definition camera through the pipe to map every defect — cracks, root intrusion points, joint displacement, corrosion and bellies (low spots where water pools). The camera also records sonde location data so we can pinpoint the exact position and depth of each defect on the surface.

This survey determines whether the pipe is a suitable candidate for relining. In most cases, even severely root-damaged and cracked pipes can be relined successfully. The only exceptions are fully collapsed sections, where a short spot excavation may be required before relining the remainder.

Hydro Jetting and Preparation

Before the liner is installed, the pipe must be thoroughly cleaned. We use high-pressure hydro jetting at up to 5,000 PSI to remove all tree roots, scale, grease and debris. The pipe interior needs to be clean and free of obstructions so the epoxy liner bonds securely to the host pipe wall.

For pipes with heavy root intrusion — common in suburbs like Woollahra and Bellevue Hill where mature fig trees dominate — we use rotating root-cutting nozzles to slice through dense root masses before flushing the debris out.

Liner Saturating and Installation

The liner itself is a flexible polyester felt tube, cut to the exact length and diameter of the damaged section. In our workshop, the liner is saturated with a two-part structural epoxy resin — the same class of resin used in marine and aerospace applications.

The saturated liner is then pulled or inverted into the pipe through an existing access point, such as an inspection opening, overflow relief gully or a single small excavation point. Once in position, the liner is inflated with air pressure, pressing it firmly against the inside wall of the host pipe.

Curing and Final Inspection

Depending on the resin system, the liner cures either at ambient temperature or under UV light. Ambient cure liners typically harden within 3 to 6 hours. UV-cured liners set in as little as 30 minutes, which is ideal for urgent repairs.

Once cured, the liner forms a rigid, seamless pipe-within-a-pipe. There are no joints for roots to penetrate, no rough surfaces for grease to accumulate on, and no weak points for future cracks to develop. The result is a pipe that exceeds the structural performance of new PVC and will serve your property for decades to come.

We complete every job with a final CCTV inspection so you can see the finished liner and confirm the quality of the installation.

Pipe relining is the preferred repair method in the following situations:

  • Tree root intrusion at pipe joints — the most common sewer defect in the Eastern Suburbs.
  • Cracked or fractured pipes — whether from ground movement, traffic loading or age-related deterioration.
  • Joint displacement — where pipe sections have shifted out of alignment, creating ledges that trap debris.
  • Corrosion in cast iron pipes — common in pre-1970s buildings across Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Potts Point.
  • Pipes under structures — driveways, slabs, pools, patios and buildings where excavation is impractical or prohibitively expensive.

Materials and Standards

Mr Plumber uses only structural-grade epoxy liners that comply with AS/NZS 3500 and relevant Australian standards for pipe rehabilitation. Our liners are independently tested for structural capacity, chemical resistance and long-term durability. We do not use cheap patch liners or flexible sleeves that degrade over time.

All installations are carried out by trained and accredited relining technicians, and every job is documented with CCTV footage and a written warranty certificate.

Why Choose Mr Plumber for Pipe Relining

No Excavation Required

Your garden, driveway and landscaping stay intact. We access the pipe through existing inspection openings or a single small excavation.

50-Year Warranty

Our structural epoxy liners carry a 50-year product warranty — outlasting the original clay or cast iron pipe.

Stronger Than Original

The cured liner has a higher structural rating than new PVC pipe and is impervious to tree root intrusion.

One-Day Completion

Most residential relining jobs are completed in a single day, with minimal disruption to your household.

Our Process

1

CCTV Pipe Assessment

We camera the full length of the pipe to map every crack, root intrusion point and joint displacement.

2

High-Pressure Cleaning

The pipe is hydro jetted to remove roots, scale and debris, creating a clean surface for the liner to bond.

3

Liner Installation

A flexible felt liner saturated with structural epoxy resin is pulled into position and inflated against the pipe wall.

4

UV or Ambient Cure

The liner cures to form a rigid, seamless pipe-within-a-pipe. We verify the result with a final CCTV inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does pipe relining last?
Our epoxy resin liners carry a 50-year product warranty. The cured liner is rated to exceed the structural performance of new PVC pipe and is impervious to root intrusion.
Is pipe relining suitable for old clay pipes?
Yes. Pipe relining is ideal for cracked, displaced or root-damaged clay pipes — which are common across older Eastern Suburbs properties in Paddington, Woollahra and Surry Hills.
How much does pipe relining cost compared to excavation?
Pipe relining typically costs 30-50% less than traditional excavation and replacement, once you factor in the cost of restoring driveways, gardens and landscaping.
Can you reline pipes under driveways and buildings?
Absolutely. That is one of the biggest advantages of trenchless relining — we can repair pipes under concrete driveways, patios, pools and even beneath the house itself.
